| Hola todos y todas, Yes, I´m alive and finally have a quick moment to give an update on my status in El Salvador. I´m officially a volunteer now and I´m living in my permanent site for the next 2 years. I arrived in El Sal June 5th and basically have been training for the last 2.5 months. I finally swore in this past Thursday as an official volunteer. We had an awesome graduating ceremony and I think we were on the news here as well. Let´s just say life has been interesting and I´ve been stretched in so many ways. Seriously, I think I can do anything after joining the Peace Corps. My transitioning was challenging in terms of physical health and adapting to my new life here, but I must say that I´m really impressed with the Peace Corps and their organization. They really take care of you and prepare you for the rest of your term here. You really are living with a host family for the first 2.5 months while you´re in training to prepare you for your permanent site. Training consisted of language classes, technical skills, historical and cultural sessions, life as a volunteer, health & security, and so much more. Here I am, sitting at a cyber cafe to check my email in the nearest bigger town where there´s more resources. I was sick on and off for the first three weeks when I got here, and yes it was gnarly and hard, but praise God I got through it. Of course there are days or weeks, where I get sick because of the difference in diet or my body adjusting to the climate and surroundings. However, I think by now I´m adjusting better. (crossing fingers) I apologize to all of you who have written or email me that I haven´t gotten the chance to respond. I will get to you, as soon as I settle in my new site and figure out my internet status. I love and think of all of you often and have milliòns of adventures to share. It´s rather difficult with limited resources to check my email at times because I have to travel a ways to use the computer now. However, I´m working on that and besides I have my cell here, so you can call me as well. (I suggest you get a calling card coz it´s cheaper) Email me or get it from someone who knows it. (You know who you are, gracias!) You can contact me via facebook or myspace as well, and some pictures are up because other volunteers have tagged me in them. Again, muchas gracias to all of you for your constant love, support, and prayers because without them, I wouldn´t be alive and healthy. Thanks for all the bday love and wishes too and stupid me, I totally accidently deleted all of the bday emails some of you sent me, so I didn´t forget you but will send out another update with pictures and all. I hope you´re enjoying your summer and I can´t wait for ya´ll to visit and see my world aqui! I´m planning on coming home to California to celebrate Christmas or if that doesn´t work out, for New Years ´08 and for my beautiful Juney´s wedding (holler girl!) If you by any chance see any great deals for flights from El Salvador to Cali for cheap, please let me know as I´m looking for them now. I can´t wait to share my life and adventures here. The beloved family and friends I´ve made here, my espanol speaking skills improving rapidly, the awesome Peace Corps El Sal staff, volunteers, and family here, the beautiful country and places I´ve venture, and the many projects and endeavors to come. I truly better understand the life of a Peace Corps volunteer now, and understand why they say it´ll be the hardest job I´ll ever love. You go through moments of reflection and wonder, what and why you made the decision to be here, but in the end you´re happy you are. I know this is an adventure I´ve always wanted and here it is, it´s my own personal story and challenge to be here. I love it guys amidst all the nuts and bolts that comes along with it. Happy Birthday to all my summer and fall babies! I thank God for all of you beautiful brothers and sisters that experienced missions and adventures abroad. Update me on your lives, and I can´t wait to host ya´ll at my casa here. Bienvenidos y buena suerte con todos. Te amo y cuidase. Love ya´ll more than a fat kid loves chocolate cake, Quyen | | |

| Gnarly....surreal....closing my eyes and pinching myself and realizing it's foreals. I can't believe I'm in El Salvador and seriously, it really hasn't hit me yet that I'm here now. I flew out this morning from Regan Airport to ATL Airport and proceeded to El Salvador. The flight wasn't bad, but I'm so beat from flying all day and not getting much sleep the night before. However, I got here safely so thank you for your prayers, love, and support. I love my team of 28 Peace Corps Volunteers and I'm so impressed with this wonderful, passionate, talented, and loving group as we set out on the adventures of our lives. We continued our in-country training today and will continue to do so in the days and months ahead. Please pray for endurance, good health, safety, patience, flexibility, humbleness, and God's guidance during this time of training. Again, there's so much more to unpack and share about my journey in NY to home for a while, and now to El Sal. As I assimilate and get acclimated to my current home and life, I will be detoxing, reflecting, refocusing, and refueling for the next ride. I'm uber excited, yet rebooting to fully relish on my new home for a while... Thanks for thinking of me guys, God Speed! Oh yes, it's freakin' hot and humid and I'm entering the rainy, dry season here. At times like this, I'm reminded of my travels in Vietnam & Thailand last year. Spreading my wings and soaring high.....Love you more than a fat kid loves chocolate cake! Thinking of you & smiling, Q | | |
| Hola,
As I sit here with a million emotions and feelings running through my mind, heart, and soul, I'm baffled that I'm flying out to El Salvador in an hour. I flew into Washington DC on Friday and spend the weekend with my beautiful Flow family and friends. Thanks Pickens & Co. for being the best hosts and most hospitable people ever! All the fun laughter, memories, pictures and all just blatantly shows me how much God loves us and blesses us with the best communities! Thanks for coming out to see me New Yorkers and thanks for seeing me off Californians. You know who you are....I'm in awe at how much ya'll care and love me, and I'm humbled by it all. It's been a tough road getting here and it's been exactly a decade since I first thought of joining Peace Corps in high school. Now, it's surreal that it's a reality as I board the plane for Central America. My training has been great, but tiring. I have so much more to write, update, and express but I will update ya'll with the latest as soon as I get situated in El Salvador. Please pray for travel mercies, safety, health, and for God to lead the way. I am excited for this new chapter and I love ya'll for loving and walking with me thus far. Go Big or Go Home right? You betcha....I miss you guys already and will leave my permanent contact information once it's settled. If you need to reach me, email me and I'll try to get back to you once I'm settled. Te Amo and Bienvenidos El Salvador! I love you long time guys, BESOS!
Yours Truly, Quyen
